Madera, CA Madera, CA Full-time Full-time $38 - $45 an hour $38 - $45 an hour JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY Under direction of a Senior Civil Engineer, the incumbent is responsible to perform office civil engineering work related to the planning, design, and construction of both public works and private land development projects.
The Civil Engineering Technician assists in the preparation of engineering drawings, construction plans, specifications, and performs project design requirement research for assigned projects.
The Civil Engineering Technician is responsible to prepare a variety of engineering reports, studies, and technical documentation.
The Civil Engineering Technician is responsible to establish and maintain friendly, professional relationships with project managers during course of work on a project and must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist through all phases of civil design projects, including, but not limited to:
grading, wet utility design and site layout Design and prepare plans and specifications for assigned projects Research project design requirements, perform calculations and prepare bid documents Interpret and apply appropriate code and regulations Respond to inquiries on engineering matters with architects, contractors, developers, and municipalities Perform CAD drafting using AutoCAD and Civil 3D to prepare maps, plans, descriptions, exhibits, records, or surveys Prepare engineering reports and construction drawings, details and technical documents including SWPPPs NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1.
Perform special projects upon request.

Monitor phone calls and e-mails, and respond within 24 hours.

Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Principles and practices of applied civil engineering to estimates, studies, technical reports, design, plans, specifications and professional recommendations for a variety of engineering activities.
Land development, including planning and analysis of engineering systems needed for the use of land including streets, sewage, water facility, storm drain, grading, land use and utilities.
Thorough understanding of design and drafting methods, including proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Communicate effectively both orally and written.
Able to take decisive action and document rationale for training/backup purposes.
Results driven with the ability to function independently and multi-task.
Able to pivot, focus and manage time well ensuring deadlines are met.
High attention to detail, resourcefulness and analytical skills.

Bachelor's degree with major course work in civil engineering, or a related field preferred.

T WORKING CONDITIONS Work is primarily performed indoors in an office environment, with occasional work outdoors as site visits or field work is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Visual:
Normal activity required daily for making color distinction, depth of sight, preparing/analyzing figures, computer use, and written records up to 8 hours per day.
Communication:
Able to express thoughts and ideas in an accurate and understandable manner through verbal and written format with internal and external contacts up to 8 hours per day.
Hearing:
Able to hear well enough to communicate with co-workers and outside contacts up to 8 hours per day.
Movement:
Ability to maneuver within an office setting and in a variety of locations up to 8 hours per day.
Fingering/Grasping/Holding:
Have hand movement and finger dexterity to operate field equipment such as a data collector and office equipment such as a computer, fax, phone, and copier up to 8 hours per day.

Travel on public transportation, including but not limited to public airlines, may be required up to 10 percent of the time.
