02/hr $1,500 lump sum July 2023 & 2024 Additional 2% COLAs July 2023, January 2024, July 2024, & January 2025 3% pay incentive for Bachelor's degree PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES The City of Madera Wastewater Treatment Plant processes over 5 million gallons per day of sewage for the City of Madera.
Under direction of the Plant Manager, the Wastewater Treatment Lab Analyst Environmental Compliance Inspector plans, organizes and conducts a variety of water pollution laboratory tests and analyses necessary for the waste water treatment plant to remain in compliance with state and federal mandates; operates and inspects the laboratory and maintains a quality level which is within EPA guidelines; and performs other related duties as required.
Classification as an Inspector II is dependent on certification level from the State of California, and employees are eligible for automatic promotion upon achieving grade II certification as both lab analyst and environmental compliance inspector.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by appropriate coursework in lab testing and analysis.
Experience:
Inspector I:
2 year experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment laboratory or the performance of related work.
Inspector II:
3 years experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment laboratory or the performance of related work.
A Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or related science field may be used to off-set up to 2 years of required work experience.
Required Licenses:
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid class C California driver's license.
Inspector I:
Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a Grade I Laboratory Analyst Certificate & Grade I Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate within 12 months of hire.
Inspector II:
Grade II Laboratory Analyst Certificate & Environmental Compliance Inspector certificate.
EXAMINATION PROCESS Only those applicants who meet the qualification standards of this position by the application filing deadline will be allowed to participate in the examination process.
Examination scores determine standing on Civil Service eligibility lists.
The City Manager, upon recommendation of the department head, will make the final selection and appointment from the established eligibility list.
The examination process may consist of the following parts:

Candidates must earn a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
